The lecture is an introduction to the most important issues of cosmology, a discipline studying the origins and history of the development of the Universe. How far is the farthest galaxy (and what is beyond it)? How was the Universe born? When was the big bang (and what was before it)? How does the entirety of the Universe move (and what makes it move)? What is the future of the Universe? These are basic questions of immense interest and to which we are getting increasingly accurate answers. The lecture describes the methods used to answer these questions and the theoretical background. The lecture leaves no doubt that thanks to increasingly more precise measurements and with the dynamics of theoretical thinking affecting measurement strategies cosmology will become a leading natural science discipline in the 21st century.
Napjainkban ismét felélénkülni látszik a hazai közigazgatási rendszer átalakításáról szóló szakmai-politikai vita.
A region is not merely a geographic-economic entity, it is also characterised by common traditions, values and interests. A different picture emerges if we see Europe as a continent, as an ensemble of countries or as a set of regions. The near fifty states to be found here can be divided into just seventeen regions and the states, as artificial formations, actually violate regional borders. Regional co-operation has to be co-ordinated across borders by sovereign states, in favourable cases the state makes compromises in exchange for the benefits of co-operation. As a result of the instability of European historical borders, it was not possible to establish state borders built on lasting regional divisions. Borders usually hinder contact as well as social and economic development, this was particularly strongly felt in Eastern Europe after 1945. The mid-level division of Hungary's territories is built on the counties, the borders of which, however, are rigid and cannot meet the modern needs of regionalisation.

A nanotudományt, a nanotechnológiát a számítógépek miniatürizálásának határai indították útjára.
Nanoscience and nanotechnology began with the exploration of the limits to the miniaturisation of computers. Soon, however, it became clear that in this quest, the co-operation of almost all branches of science were required. This makes it one of the most multi-disciplinary fields of science. The lecture gives an overview of the science while answering questions such as where nano-technology stands today, what has been achieved and the opportunities that exist. It also touches upon the solutions nanoscience can provide to the energy problems of mankind. We are introduced to the operation of some high-tech devices, which allow for atomic-size research, and the manipulation of the individual atoms. Prominence is given to the description of the production of nano-sized tools, since the creation and mass production of the tiny devices presented would be unthinkable without them. Possibly the most important role of nanoscience in the 21st century may be to attempt to understand the survival methods of mankind, the system of close-cycle production and consumption.
