Mi emberek a többi élőlényhez hasonlóan mindig együtt éltünk a sugárzásokkal. Ugyanakkor sajnos megszülettek a pusztítás eszközei is.
László Jéki, physicist, has drawn our attention to the stunning (and perhaps frightening) fact, that we live in a torrent of radiation. Our knowledge of radiation was gathered in just the last one hundred years, so we tend to think that this is some sort of modern invention - a human creation. On the contrary, radioactivity is part of nature, without it the Earth would not be inhabitable. Human beings, just like all animals, have always lived in radiation. In our thought, the word 'radiation' is right next to the word 'nuclear'. Many people nurture an irrational fear in connection to anything "nuclear", be it a nuclear power plant or a medical test. In the past hundred years, in addition to the well-known weapons created, a large number of useful applications have been developed, many of which have become indispensable.
Milyen kérdésekre keresnek választ a kutatók? Az előadás e témákat járja körül, szólva arról is, hogy mit adott a magyar tudomány a Naprendszer megismeréséhez.
Károly Szegő, physicist, examined our Solar System. "Cold. Dark. Infinite loneliness. Is it a fare description of the cosmos?" he asked. A picturesque lecture brought the nappy retort. No! The cosmos is full of motion, change, and fantastic activity, such as solar flares and the dance of the atmospheres around the planets. Most of these events cannot be detected by our five senses. Most of the radiation arrives in the spectrum of electromagnetic waves that we cannot see. This is why we have built special instruments to study the environment surrounding the earth - this is space technology

Attila Borhidi, botanist and member of HAS, compared the world of plants to the strategies of a society, to make it more educational for those who make basic decisions concerning the cohabitation of human and plant life. Plants do not constitute some amorphous biomass, but take various, basic, functionary forms, of which over 50 categories are known. These then adjust to their environment according to various strategy-types, which, at the same time, correspond to types of human social behavior. The plants living in an undisturbed territory may be competitors, specialists, generalists or pioneers that react well to extreme conditions. Anthropotolerant or even anthropofil species react to the presence of the human being. It would help resolve the conflicts between human and plant life if we developed human strategies that respect the nature of plants.
