A fizikai tudományok szemléletes bemutatása kezdettől fogva sikeres programja volt a Mindentudás Egyetemének. A kísérletek igazi élményt adnak és egyben komoly ismeretátadásra teremtenek lehetőséget. Különleges előadásunk érdekes kísérleteken keresztül demonstrálja a fizika legfontosabb törvényeit, amihez kivételes helyszínt is választottunk: az első magyar interaktív tudományos játszóházat, a Csodák Palotáját a Jövő Házában. A rendezvény egyben főhajtás a televíziós ismeretterjesztés legendás alakja, Öveges Tanár Úr előtt is.
How can physics be both entertaining and scientific? This is a special lecture of ENCOMPASS held in the Palace of Wonders by physicist and corresponding member of HAS Gábor Szabó, college teacher József Vida, department engineer Károly Härtlein and physics teachers Anett Nagy and Károly Piláth. The event is organized by Loránd Eötvös Physical Society. ENCOMPASS has presented physics in a lively manner on a number of occasions and with huge success. The experiments not only offer great experience but also provide lecturers with the opportunity to pass on academic knowledge in a form enjoyable to everyone. This special lecture uses several intriguing experiments to demonstrate the principle laws of physics in the Palace of Miracles within the House of the Future, the first Hungarian interactive scientific playhouse. The event is also to pay homage to Professor Öveges, the legendary Hungarian figure of TV-based education.
A Római Birodalom külpolitikáját tökéletesen megszervezték. A Pax Romana alapelve nem az "oszd meg és uralkodj" elve volt, inkább az, hogy Róma sehol sem szólt bele a provinciák vallási, gazdasági és törvénykezési életébe. Rómában minden erőszakkal meghódított vagy pénzzel meggyőzött szövetséges nép istenei szobrot kaptak, annak a multikulturális, bölcs szemléletnek megfelelően, amelyhez hasonlót egyetlen szuperhatalom sem tudott azóta tanúsítani. Ennek ellenére a perifériák intoleráns mentalitása behatolt a centrumba, és a birodalmi Rómát mind kulturálisan, mind politikailag szétverte. Mi volt ennek az oka?
The lecturer is a writer, who wrote his last novel, Captivity, on the basis of the events in the Roman Empire in the 1st century AC. The lecture is not about the novel itself, but on some lessons drawn from research done in a preparation of the book. The foreign policy of Rome was based on the religious, economic and legislative lives of the provinces. Ever since that time, no comparable multicultural, tolerant and wise approach could be seen from any of the superpowers. Nevertheless, the intolerant mentality of the peripheries penetrated into the centre and demolished imperial Rome both in cultural and in political terms. Rome's mentality underwent a deep change due to a new, unexpected religion, Christianity, originating from the provinces, emerging from a Jewry divided by antique globalisation and disseminating extremely fast. The history of the Roman empire represents a paradigm, its evolution is characteristic also for the fates of subsequent empires - it warns, as Seneca said: he whom you conquer today, will subjugate you tomorrow.

Az ember évezredek óta nagy érdeklődéssel fordul az öröklődés felé, melyből az elmúlt 100 év alatt tudomány született. A genetika kérdései a legkülönbözőbb területeken keltenek túlzott elvárásokat, illetve indokolatlan félelmeket.
The continuous development of biotechnology over the past decades has resulted in a giant leap in the research of medical biology by the end of the 20th century. The most spectacular product is undoubtedly the virtually complete mapping of the human genome and the sequence of its base pairs. Many believe that this is the most valuable information mankind has ever possessed and consider the announcement as a watershed event in the history of science. Now there is a real opportunity to interpret, on the level of molecules, all biological, physical and mental attributes of man, the unique properties of and the varieties within the human population and the causes behind certain people's higher probability to develop some diseases. In addition to the original medical side, genetics has taken on ethical, legal and philosophical meanings and has become a system of concepts interpreting human existence in its own complexity. We need uniform international professional, legal and political regulation to ensure that this newly acquired knowledge works to the benefit of humankind.
